Newbury Racecourse Unveils Plans for Redevelopment at Public Exhibition
Updated plans for the redevelopment of Newbury Racecourse will be unveiled at a public exhibition to be held at the course on 17th - 19th July. This exhibition follows previous public consultations in 2006, where feedback from local residents, members of the racing community and other interested groups was very encouraging.
The racecourse recently defeated a hostile take-over bid and is now ready to progress its wider regeneration plans with joint partners in the project, David Wilson Homes.
Sarah Hordern, managing director of property development and finance at Newbury Racecourse, says: “Newbury Racecourse is a historic Grade I course that needs redeveloping to make it more viable and to assure a long-term sustainable future. Currently, we only race 30 days a year, punching below our weight on non-race days. We need to trade 365 days a year to maximise our full potential and our plans provide for a more rounded and vibrant leisure destination, while maintaining the racecourse at its core.”
The multi-million pound redevelopment plans include a 120-bed hotel, the creation of better access to the racecourse via a new bridge that already has planning approval, a more impressive entrance providing a ‘sense of arrival’, improvements and additions to the current racing and golfing facilities at the racecourse and up to 1500 new homes, from apartments for first time buyers to five bedroom homes.
The exhibition showcasing the proposals will follow up on issues raised in 2006, mainly focussing on accessibility, with the racecourse team and partner organisations on hand to answer questions and note feedback from the public.
Exhibition timings:
Thursday 17th July, 12.00noon – 9.00pm
Friday 18th July, 10.00am – 5.00pm
Saturday 19th July, 12.00noon – 4.00pm
A further exhibition will be held later in the year. For more information please visit our
