Sarah Hordern (Managing Director Property, Development & Finance)
In June 2008, Sarah was appointed joint Managing Director with Stephen Higgins, taking particular responsibility for Property and the Redevelopment Project. She first joined Newbury in 1999 as Financial Controller, becoming Finance Director in 2001. She is a Chartered Accountant and previously worked for the bloodstock department of PricewaterhouseCoopers. She was part of the team which created Racing UK and is now a non-executive director of the company.

Stephen Higgins (Managing Director Racecourse & Events)
In June 2008 Stephen was appointed joint Managing Director with Sarah Hordern taking particular responsibility for the Racecourse and Events businesses. He joined the Newbury team in 2006, having been Managing Director of Wincanton Racecourse for 5 years. He is also a Chartered Surveyor so has fitted in well with the racecourse’s desire to develop its masterplan. Stephen also takes responsibility for the operation of the Rocking Horse Nursery and Golf Centre.

Richard Osgood (Clerk of the Course & Estate Manager)
Richard joined Newbury Racecourse in October 1979 as Assistant Manager. In 1990 he became Estate Manager, taking on the additional role of Clerk of the Course in 2000, managing a large groundstaff team to ensure the highest standards of racing surface. Richard’s family has been involved in the running of Newbury Racecourse since 1919. His father Frank Osgood joined in 1947 and retired in 1990. Richard is married to Cilla who is PA to Sarah Hordern.

Lisa Ward (PR & Sponsorship Manager)
Lisa joined the team in October 2000 and immediately was given the task of managing major sponsor Hennessy for their upcoming meeting. Lisa has an extensive background in racing, having previously worked on both sides of the fence for a big owner/sponsor as well as at Kempton, Sandown and Epsom as part of United Racecourses. As well as dealing with sponsorship and PR, Lisa also works closely with the local community to ensure the racecourse plays an important role.

Sam Pedder (Head of Hospitality)
Sam’s experience covers the full spectrum of the food and beverage industry; she comes to Newbury from Admiral Taverns where she was Head of Food Development for 3,000 pubs winning the Morning Advertiser Catering Development of the Year and prior to that working at Coffee Republic. As the Creative Director at a highly rated food consultancy, prior to Coffee Republic, Sam was responsible for creative and conceptual development on all projects ranging from high street retailers and pub groups to health clubs & restaurants. At Newbury, Sam looks after the food and beverage operation and development across racing, conferences & events and the public areas.

Nicola Butler (Head of Sales)
Nicola Butler, Head of Sales
Nicola was appointed Head of Sales in November 2007 and comes from a hotel and catering background. Nicola was responsible for the sales at HMS Belfast and launching the Churchill Museum & Cabinet War Rooms as a new conference and events operation as well as working at many racecourses and venues around the UK and abroad. Working closely with all departments and overseeing a sales & co-ordination team of 8 members, Nicola manages the sales for conference, events, hospitality, annual members, dining and ticketing.

Kate Walthew (Marketing Manager)
Kate Walthew joined the team in August 2007. Prior to her appointment at Newbury she worked as a Project Manager and also spent four years based in London at the BHB (now the BHA) where she was Assistant Marketing Manager. Kate works closely with the sales, sponsorship and PR teams to ensure all aspects of Newbury’s racing and non raceday facilities are promoted to the full.
