  • July 2011 – Reserved matters planning application for Central Area registered with West Berkshire Council.

  • June 2011 - Public Exhibition for the proposals of the Central Area pre application detailed designs.

  • April 2011 - Reserved matters planning application for Western Area registered with West Berkshire Council.

  • December 2010 – Public Exhibition for the proposals for the Western Area pre-application detailed designs.

  • June 2010 – Award-winning Glenn Howells Architects appointed and a year of detailed design work underway.

  • April 2010 – Section 106 planning agreement signed by Newbury Racecourse, David Wilson Homes Southern and West Berkshire Council.

  • March 2010 – GOSE confirmed the application for outline planning permission would not be called in by the Secretary of State for consideration.

 

  • January 2010 – Western Area Planning Committee of West Berkshire Council resolved to grant outline planning permission, subject to Section 106 agreement, for the major redevelopment of the racecourse. The application was referred to the Government Office for the South East (GOSE).

  • May 2009 – Outline planning application was withdrawn and a revised application was submitted to reflect improvements to the design and layout agreed with West Berkshire officers.

 

  • November 2008 – Outline planning application was submitted to West Berkshire Council.

 

  • July and September 2008 – Having successfully fought off the takeover bid, work commenced on refining the proposals with two further public exhibitions and regular pre-application meetings with planning and other officers of West Berkshire Council.

 

  • Rest of 2007 – Occupied with fighting the take-over bid for the racecourse, which cast uncertainty over the future of racing in Newbury and possible future use of the site. The bid was defeated.

 

  • July 2007 – Full planning consent was granted for a new bridge over the railway allowing the creation of a new access to the racecourse from the north.

 

  • October 2006 – Transport workshop for the immediate residents on Boundary Road, New Road etc, responding to particular issues that they rose at the public exhibition.

 

  • July and September 2006 – Two public exhibitions of the draft proposals.

  • Late 2005 / early 2006 – David Wilson Homes Southern was selected to test the feasibility of the proposals and enable concept proposals and designs to be drawn up.
