Newbury ROA Gold Standard

Hennessy Winter Festival / 3 Day Guide

The Hennessy Winter Festival is Newbury’s biggest racing event of the year and has established itself as one of the highlights of the racing calendar and is a fantastic social event too.
The biggest stars in racing take each other on the track whilst the crowds are joined by a host of celebrity racegoers.  In 2007 these included Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster, singer James Blunt and actor and Newbury regular, James Nesbitt.

In 2008 the Festival takes place from Thursday November 27th to Saturday November 29th and for the first time the three day Festival will now culminate on the Saturday, Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup Day, providing a fitting climax to three days of top class racing and entertainment.  Book your tickets now
Day 1 Thursday 27th November Day 1
The quality starts from Day 1 with the feature race being the Worcester Novices’ Chase.  This race is a great pointer towards stars for the future, demonstrated by 2007 winner Joe Lively, a prolific winner and exciting prospect for the future.  Linger after racing and browse around our excellent shopping village or soak up the atmosphere provided by one of our live music acts in both the Grandstand and Premier Enclosures.  More entertainment will be confirmed nearer the time.

Gates open: 10am  First race: 12pm
Tickets: Premier - £27 (3 day £67), Grandstand £18 (3 day £40)

Hospitality packages sell out fast for this event so make sure you book in advance if you want to enjoy the action from one of our private boxes or hospitality suites.  You also have the choice of our two restaurants.

Day 2 Friday 28th November Day 2
Excitement builds on Day 2, the perfect prelude to the big day on Saturday.  The feature race is the Grade 2 Berkshire Novices’ Chase over 21/2 miles.  Again, always attracting a quality field, this race was won in 2007 by Hobbs Hill, an exciting Novice trained by Charlie Egerton.  Linger after racing and browse around our excellent shopping village or soak up the atmosphere provided by one of our live music acts in both the Grandstand and Premier Enclosures.
More entertainment will be confirmed nearer the time.

Day 3 Saturday 29th November Day 3

Newbury’s most famous and popular raceday.  In 2007 we woke up to crisp blue skies and let’s hope the fine winter weather continues in 2008.  The feature race is of course the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, won in 2007 by the awesome Denman.  The race consistently attracts a host of top class horses and 2008 will be no exception with many trainers, including Paul Nicholls with Denman, making early plans to target this race with their best horses.

You’ll be able to enjoy champions from years past with the ever popular Parade of Champions prior to racing.  The race is supported by the Grade 1 Long Distance Hurdle, won in 2007 by Inglis Drever who made history by completing the hat trick in this top class event.

Linger after racing and browse around our excellent shopping village or soak up the atmosphere provided by one of our live music acts in both the Grandstand and Premier Enclosures.

More entertainment will be confirmed nearer the time.
