All Aboard For Family Fun Day

Paddington Bear arrived by First Great Western train to Newbury Racecourse Station to prepare for the popular Family Fun Day taking place at Newbury Racecourse on Sunday 3rd August. Local legend,

Paddington Bear was greeted by the Newbury Racecourse mascot, Harry the Horse who then helped Paddington with his preparations for the teddy bears picnic he will be hosting in the Parade Ring on Sunday.

First Great Western’s mascot, Paddington Bear who recently celebrated his 50th Anniversary at Paddington Station where he was discovered, travelled to Newbury Racecourse Station as part of his tour around the First Great Western region. He then met with racecourse Catering Manager, Martin Bunch to discuss the marmalade sandwiches that will be made for the children at the picnic – as expected this involved Paddington Bear sampling plenty of sandwiches himself!

Beth Rendle, Partnerships Manager at First Great Western commented; “As part of our long established relationship with Paddington Bear, we are delighted to send him out and about in our region during his 50th Anniversary year. We have a fantastic relationship with Newbury Racecourse and the station is located just yards from the course. Sending Paddington to the forthcoming Family Fun Day seemed a great way to link our partnership together and provide an exciting opportunity for families to meet Britain’s favourite bear”.

Children are invited to bring along their teddy bear and share some marmalade sandwiches with Paddington in the Parade Ring before the first race. There are lots of other activities taking place during the day include a circus workshop, bouncy castles, face painters and children's story teller. The finale for the day will be the hugely entertaining Camel Racing taking place along the track after the last race.

Paddington Bear will be greeting families off the train at Newbury Racecourse station- to book your train tickets and for more information on train times visit www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk

The gates open at 11.30am with the Teddy Bears Picnic taking place at 12.15pm.  The first race is at 1.10pm.
Under 18s are admitted free.
