Newbury's 'proposal bench' proves Valentine success…
The paint was barely dry on Newbury’s special white ‘proposals bench’ – officially launched last Saturday 13th February – when it played host to its first engagement.
Regular racegoer Andy Painter, from Wokingham, who has been with his partner Pam Tonkyn for an impressive 12 years, decided it was the perfect location to finally ‘pop the question’.
Pam, also from Wokingham, commented: “He is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I am thrilled that we are finally making our relationship ‘official’. I can't wait to marry him…even though it means my name will be Pammie Painter!”
The couple’s romantic journey began at the Dog and Duck pub, Emmbrook, where Pam worked as a barmaid, and Andy played for the darts team. Pam and Andy plan to get married next September in Cornwall.
Located amongst Newbury’s classic benches – with a view of the finishing straight - the special white bench provides the perfect romantic venue for lovers to pop the question during their day at the races
