Winter Festival / 3 Day Guide

The Winter Festival is Newbury’s biggest racing event of the year and has established itself as one of the highlights of the racing calendar and is a fantastic social event too. 
Newbury's most famous fixture, the Winter Festival featuring the Hennessy Gold Cup, regularly attracts the biggest stars in racing take each other on the track whilst the crowds are joined by a host of celebrity racegoers.  In 2008 these included Richard Madeley, Julian Fellowes, Lord Freddie Windsor, Salman Rushdie and actor and Newbury regular, James Nesbitt.

In 2009 the Winter Festival takes place from Thursday November 26th to Saturday November 28th culminating on Saturday, Hennessy Cup Day, providing a fitting climax to three days of top class racing and entertainment.  Other highlights include Friday's Gentleman's Day and a Celebrity Chef appearance in the Hennessy Restaurant on Thursday.
Day 1 Thursday 26th November Day 1
The quality starts from Day 1 with the feature race being the GPG Novices’ Chase (registered as the Worcester).  This race is a great pointer towards stars for the future and was won in 2007 by Gone to Lunch.  Linger after racing and browse around our excellent shopping village or soak up the atmosphere provided by our live music act in the Berkshire Stand's Long Room Bar. 

Exclusively for today only, a celebrity chef will be cooking in the Hennessy Restaurant

Day 2 Friday 27th November - Gentleman's Day Day 2
Excitement builds on Day 2, the perfect prelude to the big day on Saturday.  The feature race is the Grade 2 Berkshire Novices’ Chase over 2 1/2 miles.  Again, always attracting a quality field, this race was won in 2008 by The Market Man, trained locally by Nicky Henderson.  Linger after racing and browse around our excellent shopping village or soak up the atmosphere provided by live music in the Premier Enclosure. 

Today's Gentleman's Day also features a line up of extra entertainment as well as a Best Dressed Gentleman competition with a fantastic prize for the winner.  Find out more.

Day 3 Saturday 28th November - Hennessy Gold Cup Day Day 3

Newbury’s most famous and popular raceday.  The feature race is of course the Hennessy Gold Cup, won in 2008 by Madison du Berlais.  The race consistently attracts a host of top class horses and 2009 will be no exception with many trainers making early plans to target this race with their best horses. 

You’ll be able to enjoy champions from years past with the ever popular Parade of Champions prior to racing.  The race is supported by the Grade 1 toteswinger Long Distance Hurdle, won in 2008 by the Nicky Henderson trained Duc de Regniere. 

Linger after racing and browse around our excellent shopping village or soak up the atmosphere provided by one of our live band in the Grandstand marquee.
